During his speech, Erhan Özdemir highlighted the importance of regular maintenance and periodic inspections of fire pump systems, stating:

“Fires remain one of the most serious threats causing loss of life and property. According to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Fire Department, a total of 24,948 fires occurred in Istanbul in 2024 — roughly one fire every 20 minutes. Among these, 6,047 were residential, and 2,604 occurred in warehouses, workplaces, offices, and commercial buildings. Unfortunately, injuries and fatalities were also reported.
Fire pumps, a critical component of fire suppression systems, play a key role in ensuring adequate water pressure and rapid response, minimizing potential damage. These systems, used across industrial facilities, hospitals, shopping centers, and residential projects, are designed to deliver water at the correct pressure during a fire. Regular mechanical and electrical maintenance is essential — a poorly maintained fire pump may fail when needed most, compromising safety.”

Dr. Ceyhun Eren emphasized in the panel:

“Fire is one of the most destructive risks for businesses and buildings. Unlike natural disasters, its probability and impact can be significantly reduced through effective precautions. İlker İbik, Chairman of Türkiye İMSAD Structural Fire Safety Working Group, stated:

“Fire safety is not merely a technical requirement tied to building permits; it must be sustainably addressed at every stage — from design to construction, operation, and inspection. For high-rise or high-occupancy buildings, merely meeting minimum regulatory requirements is insufficient. Fire risk should be assessed beyond regulations with an engineering perspective. Performance-based fire safety allows designers to develop building-specific strategies, enhancing safety while optimizing costs. For this transformation to be sustainable, all stakeholders — from designers to implementers, public authorities to insurance companies — must understand their responsibilities and actively participate.”

FBased on 2023 data published by SGK, a total of 681,655 insured employees in Türkiye experienced work-related accidents, resulting in 1,972 fatalities. Furthermore, 946 insured employees were diagnosed with occupational diseases.

Hydraulic selection 
Predefined selection parameters and calculation methods of Smart Select, which has a wide range of additional modules to enable qualified sizing and configuration of custom pump designs, helps its users to make a quick and accurate pump selection. The hydraulic selection feature of the program allows direct and fast product selection. The hydraulic selection also allows pumps to be dimensioned and configured according to operating conditions such as area of application, flow, flow rate and pump head.
QuickSearch 
QuickSearch, which is one of the selection methods of Smart Select and located on the main screen, allows users to find the right pumps faster. With this method, the selection process is accelerated and users are offered the opportunity to save time.
Smart Select also makes it possible to compare data from different selection processes of a project. In this context, the selected pumps are listed in a table and similarities and differences can be easily seen.
Product configuration 
The product configuration supports the user in making a choice. The program can independently check whether the given pump data meets the entered criteria.
The pump curves are automatically calculated by the software to suit the respective operating conditions. The desired viscosity conversion method can be selected individually for each task schedule in the database and can be disabled if desired.
Smart Select also enables efficient sizing of specific pump types, booster sets and drainage pumps for the user. Numerous predefined components such as motors, materials, packings, magnetic drivers, frequency converters and coupling guards can be used for the configuration process. The software identifies the resulting curve and, if necessary, an iterative drive sizing can be performed.
Accessories
Accessories can be selected based on a chosen configuration or via the description or item number, which gives the user the option to select a particular part from a list or drawing. Accessory lists are assigned directly to a pump or product type. Additional elements such as paint and even warranty extensions, which are among the necessary components for pump sizing, are also defined as accessories.

We aimed to minimize the energy consumption of the building due to heating and cooling with the smart and advanced technology air source heat pumps that we use. We also preferred fixtures that consume less energy.
The landscaping of our building was also done with the understanding of sustainable landscaping. We aimed to ensure the continuity of the flora by choosing plants suitable for the climatic conditions of Istanbul. In short, we have adopted an environmentalist approach in our new office, which is compatible with nature and focused on recycling.”

According to a report by the World Natural Resources Institute (WRI), Turkey ranks 32nd among countries suffering from water shortages.
On 22 March, World Water Day, Vahdettin YIRTMAÇ, the General Manager of Masdaf, stated, “We are on our way to becoming a “water-poor” country with a growing population and decreasing water reserves. Considering these consequences, we must use our water supplies with the awareness that there is no infinite resource. By preferring smart pump technologies to provide water for a sustainable life, we need to avoid waste of energy and water in buildings, businesses and agriculture.”

According to a report by the “World Natural Resources Institute (WRI)”, Turkey ranks 32nd among countries suffering from water shortages. During the first session of the all-day event, Duygu ERTEKİN, Marketing Manager of Masdaf, informed the students of the Masdaf and pump industry. Referring to the projects implemented by Masdaf within the university-industry collaboration, ERTEKİN also shared information on the “Masdaf Inter-Universities Project Competition,” a first in the industry, where students will be able to demonstrate their professional knowledge that they acquired throughout their education.
In the second live session of the event, with strong attendance, Önder Kırıkçılar, Masdaf Technical Office Team Leader, installed and disassembled SPLT and HEXA series pumps. The questions of the students who attended the interactive event with live broadcasting were also answered.
In the third session, a factory trip was held accompanied by İbrahim DEMİR, Masdaf Plant Manager. The students were informed of areas of use for tanks, water booster and pump groups, operating principles and production processes, machining, press shop, welding room, water booster installation, pump installation, accouplement, performance and hydrostatic testing, wet paint, powder paint, storage and shipping processes.

In the webinar held in common with Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Prevention and Training Branch Directorate of Sakarya, it underlined the negligence in fires, especially in residential and industrial facilities.
Stating that about 400 large factory fires occur every year and an annual average of 25 people lose their lives in Turkey, Mechanical Engineer M. Zahit Akkaya from Metropolitan Fire Department of Sakarya highlighted that the buildings and industrial facilities are required to be built as prepared for fire hazard. “This is an integrated process starting with the architectural project of the building and industrial facility and continuing with the mechanical project. While the buildings and industrial facilities are still in the architectural project phase, the fire cases that may occur when the building or facility becomes in operation should be predictable and the required measures should be taken. In this regard, first of all, the "regulation on the fire protection of buildings" must be followed and within this scope, the fire classification of the building must be made. If this project belongs to an industrial facility, it should be designed by considering which hazard class industrial facility it belongs to. Here, the function of building, fire load, flammability load should be considered. For example; the regulation imposes obligation of sprinkling in the storey-stores of 2000 square meter and above and in businesses contain flammable materials such as cologne and paint over 1000 square meters. In such projects, Escape route, ventilation and pump systems should be preferred depending on the structure of building. Therefore, it is important to predict all of them during the design phase; however, our operation is a bit different, we start construction of the building at first and apply everything we think of apart from fire safety equipment in time. Only if it becomes an obligation, we prefer to apply the fire safety equipment. But the foreign investments, especially in the investments with European insurances or in the investments with foreign partners, “regulation on the fire protection of buildings” is applied a bit more regularly. The production which is in compliance with the standards during the construction phase of the structures increasingly continues; but it is required to be integrated to these standards simultaneously in our legislation,” Akkaya added.
Akkaya emphasized the importance of educational activities for raising awareness in the public on the measures that can be taken for firefighting in his speech. Akkaya stated that, “We should have an awareness that we are able to keep our calmness in case of a potential fire as a society. This can only be maintained by education. Especially children should be raised with an awareness in this regard from the preschool period. In this context, children should be educated about the firefighter in a sectoral sense, what a fire means and what measures should be taken to avoid being exposed to this situation even if it is accidental, or about the precautions that can be taken during a fire.&nbsp; Because the unconscious interventions made before the fire brigade during the fire may lead even growth of fire. For example, the residential fires often occur due to the forgotten oil in the pot or contact of over-fried oil with fire in the kitchen. In case of such fire, throwing water on oil with panic is one of the common mistakes. Such approaches can growth the fire even more which would not grow normally. This creates the consciousness part of the matter. It is also possible to control or extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher or a fire extinguisher equipment before the fire brigade arrives to the scene of accident after the fire outbreak. Therefore, the possibility for our citizens who are conscious and take the measures to face with such risks are very rare.
Akkaya stated that the fires in the industrial facilities often occur due to the problem in electric wiring, gas leakage, overheating of equipment, negligence of their periodical maintenance. He highlighted the measures that can be taken in order for preventing the losses occurred due to the fire in the industries.
“The majority of the fires that we face in general are the fires that can be extinguished before the fire brigade arrives to the scene of accident with the accurate measures. However, here, the industrial facility operator and its employees should be conscious and the business should have the equipment notifying fire and enabling intervention to fire such as fire pump, cabinet, detection system. It is extremely important to choose pump groups with UL/FM approval or NFPA 20 standards, especially in pump groups. It is also of great importance to design suitable environments in the enterprises where the fire pump can be used and to make periodic maintenance of the pumps in order to ensure that the pumps operate smoothly during the fire. Here it is important to be conscious as much as inspection,” said Akkaya.

Drawing attention to the importance of national and international standards for the production of fire pumps, Baba continued her words as follows: “As Masdaf, we firstly produce the pump technologies compatible with the Turkish fire regulation. In some points that the regulation is not sufficient, the international standards such as NFPA 20 and UL/FM become involved. NFPA 20 is based on the foundations accepted not only in Turkey but also in the world, especially in the European countries. Turkish Fire Regulation has been already established upon these standards. UL/FM is an American standard similar with NFPA. UL and FM are two different establishments. UL is a security firm, while FM is an insurance firm. Since the foreign investors choose FM as the insurance firm, their insurance fees increase when they purchase UL/FM-approved product. Also, I can say that it is the most detailed and well-equipped standard in the world. Now, not only the foreign investors but the local investors are also using these products. Because there is no deficit in this standard, the rules are very clear, its control mechanism is properly operated. We were the eighth firm entered to UL list in the world in 2009, by now, this number has probably reached forty. The products with this certificate are being developed as equipped by taking additional security measures with detailed firefighting scenarios. Also, UL inspects the product and the firm from R&amp;D to the manufacturing line once in three months. It participates to the testing of orders with UL/FM that you are already manufacturing. If you do not manufacture a product not compatible with the standards, it takes your certificate back. Here, you cannot make any change in the product upon the request of customer in manufacturing phase, you should definitely consult UL/FM for this. If necessary, they initiate the entire process again.”
Stating that the products with NFPA and UL/FM are often used in high-risk and high-capacity needs such as healthcare complex, industrial spaces and high-capacity building projects, Baba pointed out that pump technologies based on Turkish fire regulations are preferred in buildings and small businesses.</div>

In the supply station the project built by ARGES İnşaat, Masdaf’s SPLT series Detachable Body Double Suction Centrifugal Pumps were preferred. The performance test of “NME Series Heavy-Duty Service Type Pumps” that will be placed in Fuel Storage and Land Filling Terminal of ERGAZ in Erzurum took place in the “Pump Test Stand” located in the Düzce factory of Masdaf in the first quarter of the year, with the participation of ERGAZ officials. &nbsp;

Due to the incorrect management and use of the water resources that are affected directly from global warming, 40% of the global population faces the faces the danger of drought. One billion persons are not able to access water while every year 1.5 million children lose their lives due to dirty water. Drawing attention to the fact that the efficient and effective management of water resources is of vital importance within the scope of “World Water Day”, Masdaf Domestic Sales Manager Cem HANEDANOĞLU stated that “Due to the global warming which threatens the world as a result of growing population throughout the world, greenhouse gas emission and similar reasons as well as industrialisation, the water resources are running out rapidly. Efficient and effective management of the waste water generated both in raw water transfer and distribution and after use is of vital importance for human life”.
Indicating that they effectively and efficiently manage the water with efficient pump technologies they produce for superstructure and infrastructure projects as Masdaf, Hanedanoğlu added; “With the purification systems developed for the efficient use of waste water we call as “grey water” which is other than black water (toilet water), that is chemical-free and faecal-free, originating from residences , from showers, bathtubs, sinks, kitchens, dishwashers and washing machines, up to 50% saving can be achieved from water used in houses and offices. Because, 50% of the waste water generated from residences is grey water. According to the calculations made, the daily amount of grey water consumed by a family of 4 is between 500-600 litres. For example, 5 to 10 litres of water is wasted in order to reach the comfort temperature of the shower in combi boiler heating systems. Taking into account that there are 10 million combi users in Turkey as of 2019 according to the data of TÜİK (Turkish Statistical Institute), we can state that millions of litres of water are wasted every day in our country. Use of grey water recovery systems will also decrease the amount of usage water necessary amount of domestic water due to the recovered water.
The purified water in the grey water recovery systems can be used in garden watering as well as in toilet reservoirs. There are a lot of purification companies in our country which provide reliable solutions for pumping, filtering and disinfection processes in grey water recovery systems. &nbsp;How did the pandemic that has taken hold of the entire globe affect your company and your industry? How do you manage this process, your production and supply chain in particular? 
As Masdaf, the leading company in the pump industry, we manage this challenging process with the help of precautions we have taken, and with our dynamic structure that we have created in light of our values ​​and knowledge we have adopted for 43 years, and the strength we get from all our stakeholders. We continue the production of our world-class, sustainable, environmentally friendly and efficient fluid technologies thanks to our strong semi-manufactured stocks and engineering solutions, by avoiding any setbacks.
&nbsp;As of 11 March 2020, the date when the COVID-19 virus was confirmed to have reached our country, we have implemented a series of measures covering our internal activities. First of all, we initiated the Home-office method for our administrative staff in order to ensure the health of Masdaf employees. We have carried all the data regarding our internal trainings and meetings to a digital environment. Since we are a company that attaches importance to digital transformation, we have observed that the investments we have made for ERP and Industry 4.0 prior to the pandemic successfully operate in the remote management processes without constraining the system performance.
&nbsp;We informed all our employees on "how to protect themselves against the COVID-19 virus" via opinions from experts. By taking precautions to be able to prioritize the health of our production personnel working in our factory as well as our administrative staff, we continue production without allowing the business processes of our customers and all other stakeholders being interrupted. The pandemic also has adversely affected our industry like it has many other sectors. Ongoing construction projects within the domestic market have been stopped, many investors have decided to postpone their investments. In addition, the pandemic affected trade volume, export and import dynamics on a global scale. We continue our business activities for expanding our export markets through digital platforms due to postponed fairs, seminars and visits.
&nbsp;If the pandemic crisis continues for a longer period, what is the plan B that you have prepared for your company? What are your suggestions to weather the storm without any problems?
&nbsp;The "Novel Coronavirus COVID 19" pandemic was a situation nobody has been prepared for, and honestly I do not think that anyone can be ready for the situation if this process would continue for a prolonged period. However, if we encounter such a situation despite all efforts, our first priority is to ensure that our supply chain processes operate properly for timely delivery of our products and services, thus to take the necessary precautions. At this point, we also experience the advantages of being a local brand in product supply.
Should the pandemic stretch over a prolonged period, companies with a strong and sustainable supply chain will be advantageous both in exports and within the domestic market. That is why the proper operation of our supply chain is very important to us. Another important issue is the price hikes during this difficult period. We should always keep in mind that the attitude of companies during the pandemic will be remembered in the post-pandemic period, as the price hikes in such a period will weaken the customer's perception of the companies. It is important for the manufacturers to focus on R&amp;D studies that will enable them to offer value-added products and services during this period, and on studies that mitigate the possible effects of the virus.
I think that companies that adapt to digitalization during and after the pandemic are going to make a difference. Enterprises need to develop methods for remote management of their products, and to adopt their internal processes and production technologies to the Industry 4.0 infrastructure. Because the virus environment restricts the mobility of individuals and makes it necessary to manage the product remotely.
What do you think will change within the business world? This period shows us that digitalization and online trainings become much more important. Does your company work on these issues or will you increase your studies in this fields?
As I mentioned before, companies that adapt to digitalization processes during this period will gain the the competitive advantage. Specifically for Masdaf, we have designed our way of doing business in many areas from marketing to production in accordance with the requirements of digitalization. We carried the data of the trainings we organized within the scope of Mas Academy, which we established in 2017, to the digital environment together during the pandemic and we started to organize online interactive trainings. Our training programs so far have attracted a lot of attention.
In this period of home-office due to the social isolation process, technology usage has increased and social media channels have gained importance. And as Masdaf, we started to use our social media accounts in more active ways to inform our business partners. We regularly inform our stakeholders through these channels. In short, once the pandemic ends, an era of digital technology will begin and the strategies that brands follow in this period will have an impact on consumer perception.
&nbsp;What do you do for recreational purposes during the pandemic? What are your bedside books, what movies do you watch or what kind of sports do you do?
&nbsp;We humans are social beings and it is important for us that we can keep in contact with other people. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Nevertheless the virus environment forces us to stay isolated in our homes and prevents us from face-to-face communication with other people. Therefore, during this forced stay at home, we continue to keep in contact with our teams, friends and relatives in digital environments within the realms of possibility offered us by the technology. This situation prevents us from isolating ourselves from daily processes. Apart from this, we should develop nutritional habits that will keep us mentally alert and increase our physical resistance. In addition, we have to try to prevent our daily physical activities from being disrupted in order to maintain our quality of life.
During the pandemic, the content of online education platforms has improved and got richer. Many online resources have emerged regarding personal development, academic subjects, wellness and fitness programs. Of course, in my spare time, I do participate in self-improvement and sports training using these platforms. In addition, the pandemic also gives us the opportunity to read books that we could not find time for during our daily hassle. I am currently reading W. &nbsp;Russell Neuman's "The Digital Difference". The book is about the communication structure and its dynamics during digital era.</div>

As Masdaf, on the basis of our sustainable growth lays; to follow the technological developments in the world closely, to include new production methods into our system in a short time, to develop and brand innovative pump technologies with R&amp;D works. With all these works, we reached the position to direct our sector. Our investments and development efforts that put digital transformation at the centre of all our processes continue uninterruptedly.
In this context, we focused on digitalization activities in brand communication. We initially started the transformation with our website. Then we renewed our corporate identity and logo. We configured these innovations we made in the name of branding in line with the changing world dynamics and customer expectations. Besides the innovative products and customer-oriented services that we developed on the basis of sustainable cooperation with our customers, our branding efforts carry great importance too. As Masdaf, our biggest goal is "to provide 100% customer satisfaction under all circumstances”. Another projects we started within this scope was the renewal of our current product selection program. Together with our products newly added into Masdaf product family, we are renewing our selection program as to meet the expectations of our customers both at home country and abroad. The product selection will be more efficient with our new program that has a user-friendly interface.

In the first half of 2019, our export increased by 21% compared to the same period of the previous year.

As of the first quarter of 2018, the contraction in the domestic market directly affected the pump sector. We anticipated this contraction on time and focused on our export activities. As a matter of fact, POMSAD data also supported us. In 2018, pump export increased by 15% and reached 542.9 Million Dollars.
In last two years, we participated in numerous fairs in different countries in order to improve our export, we organized “pump seminars and trainings" for mechanical design and mechanical application offices in the region together with our overseas business partners, and expanded our overseas dealer sales channels. Briefly, we turned this contraction in the domestic market into an opportunity to improve our exports to 65 countries. In line with our strategies to diversify our foreign markets, our export exhibited steady growth. In the first half of 2019, our export increased by 21% compared to the same period of the previous year. The ratio of our export to turnover reached 40%.

Our production efficiency increased by 18% in the recent year.
We started the works that will make the information processing infrastructure of our Düzce plnats established on an area of 40.000 m² be compatible with Industry 4.0, and we are continuing our investments in smart production technologies for the last three years without slowing down. We started to reap the benefits of our investments we realized within the scope of Industry 4.0. Our production efficiency increased by 18% in the recent year. In addition to this, we aim to get a greater share from the global production value chain with our high value-added products.
With our high production technologies at our Düzce plants, we are manufacturing end-suction pumps, inline pumps, axial detachable pumps, hydrophores, expansion tanks, fire pumps, stage pumps, process pumps, submersible pumps, column pumps, self-suction pumps and gear pumps. Our products are used in many fields such as industrial processes, irrigation, heating and cooling systems, marine industry, waste water transfer, fire extinguishing processes, petro-chemical industry, agricultural irrigation, etc.

With our strong R&amp;D team, we continue to develop innovative products. In 2019, we reserved 7% of our turnover to R&amp;D. In this context, we aimed to offer our customers long-lasting and economical usage with our new series pumps that we launched in 2019. For the first time in last October, we increased the mechanical strength with stainless steel stage structure in "Daf Series Pumps" that we exhibited at our booth at ISK Sodex Fair. At the same time, we aimed to offer our customers a long-lasting usage opportunity with this new product for which we also submitted a patent application too.
"HEXA Series Stainless Pumps" with which we will offer our customers the advantage of rapid delivery in all capacities by means of our strong semi-finished stock is another product of us that we developed as a complete stainless steel product with vertical shaft and high efficiency. The highly functional Hexa Series Stainless Pumps are used in a wide range of applications from mains water to industrial liquids with different temperatures, flow rates and pump head.
Our new “Deep Well Submersible Pump", which offers ideal solutions for deep wells and generally used in the pressurization of clean or demineralized water, agricultural irrigation, raw water supply, dropping the underground water level and industrial applications, and is free of noise and vibration because of completely operating within a fluid, is one of our products we launched in 2019. &nbsp;

We expanded the FM CERTIFIED product family in fire pumps that are used in the pressurization of aqueous fire extinguishing systems in buildings and industrial plants and are vital in fire-fighting. Certified by UL (Underwriters Laboratories), an international independent engineering and safety company, in the recent years, our “Detachable Case Fire Pumps" have been approved by FM (Factory Mutual), the highest quality standard in the world, like our products in the other fire pumps product group. <div class="content generaltext">Explaining that approximately 20% of the electric energy consumed in the world and approximately 30% of the electric energy consumed in the industry are consumed by the pumps, Masdaf Business Development Manager Ahmet Yılmaz stated that offering project specific solutions in terms of process and energy efficiency is crucial. 
Taking the attention to the importance of highly secure manufacturing of the industrial process pumps used in the industry, particularly in explosive and easy-flammable environments such as petroleum, chemistry and energy sectors, Mr. Yılmaz said: "The requirements of ATEX certification having international applicability should be taken as a compulsory reference by the investors in the selection of the pump."

Also pointing out the importance of analysing the data through the sensors connected to the internet in order to prevent the problems of the pump technologies in the industries that will cause the system to be interrupted, Mr. Yılmaz continued; "In order to optimize the power usage and continuity with intelligent sensor solutions used in pump technologies, it is necessary to collect and analyse data continuously by using internet-connected sensors. With the data obtained from the system, the average vibration values of the pumps, temperature, how it is used and when or why pumps operate outside expected conditions, in short, their performance can be analysed. Thus, we ensure that the enterprise prevents any damage that may occur in the system. At the same time, we share this data with our R&amp;D team to ensure 100% customer satisfaction and use it to develop high-quality pumps suitable for the requirements of the market. We offer a system solution via motor or panel in accordance with the requirements of our customer also in the frequency controls systems for which we established the scenarios to accurately use the pump systems and regulate per the load status. The correct selection of pipe diameters used in pumps is also among the issues we approach with precision. With the correct pipe diameter calculation, we prevent energy losses from friction. With the correct calculation, we ensure that costs are reduced both in the initial investment cost and operating costs.
Emphasizing the necessity of highly secure manufacturing of the industrial process pumps used in the industry, particularly in explosive and easy-flammable environments such as petroleum, chemistry and energy sectors, Mr. Yılmaz said: Within the frame of the "Directive on Prevention of Major Industrial Accidents and Mitigation of Their Consequences (96/82/EC), we are the first local pump brand that achieved to get ATEX certification in Turkey for NME Heavy Duty Pumps and Magnetically Coupled, Canned NM m-Drive series End Suction Pumps. The requirements of ATEX certification having international applicability should be taken as a compulsory reference by the investors. It is extremely important that the product can provide high security conditions as well as being economical. In environments containing flammable and explosive materials, it is not enough for the electric motor of the pump only to be ex-proof. The pump must be treated as a system and must comply with safety parameters in an integrity with its coupling, chassis, sealing, ground connection and even painting. ATEX certified pumps, or alias ex-proof (explosion proof: non-explosive) pumps, are the pumps that are manufactured by using motors and equipment specially designed to not cause spark, static electricity, and electric arc. It is mandatory to use ATEX certified pump in the systems where fluids with risk of explosion are used. All our ATEX pumps have been developed in accordance with the technical and safety requirements of ATEX directive numbered 2014/34/EU. Within the scope of Mas Academy, a presentation on “Pump Theory and Energy Efficiency” was realized to the Industrial Plant Directors of Adana. In order to provide energy efficiency in buildings, the “energy-efficient building design regulations and standards must be complied with. In the effective use of energy, correct selection of device and the “IoT” (internet of things) compatibility of the selected device possesses great importance in the effective management of energy. The developments in digital technology helps end users to manage electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power safely and efficiently. The rapid growth of smart devices in the industry and the reducing costs of information processing have become the most important elements supporting these developments.
&nbsp;The ‘smart’ concept transformations in the industry has impacted the basic change concept in pumps and direct the producers towards the systems that will make pumps ‘smart’. &nbsp;Highlighting that the pumps used for an extended period may cause structural damage and may cause wear and tear in components, YIRTMAÇ has said that: “In order to ensure that pumps are operated efficiently, periodical maintenance and repair must be done. One of the biggest challenges for a pump distributor is after sales services. In order to determine the issues in pumps and to carry out the repair in the shortest period possible, it is possible to make “predictive maintenance” with IoT technologies. Thanks to predictive maintenance, the status of the equipment can be monitored and measures can be taken by evaluating their likelihood of being defected. Thus, unexpected defects will not cause production losses and the costly maintenance and repair expenses are prevented. Additionally, with the data obtained from the system, the overall vibration speed of the pumps, temperature, how it is used and when or why pumps operate outside expected conditions, in short, their performance can be analysed. Pump producers can use this data to develop more reliable pumps and to understand the needs of the market”. Advantage in Initial Investment Cost With ‘Masdaf’ Detachable Body Fire Pumps! l Masdaf

<div class="content generaltext">We spoke about the NFPA 20 compliant fire pumps, the certification process of Detachable Body Fire Pumps which was approved by FM in 2019, advantages they offer to investors, trainings held by Mas Academy, innovations made in 2019 and Masdaf’s future goals with General Manager Vahdettin Yırtmaç.
&nbsp;First of all, can you give us information about your fire systems product group?
&nbsp;We are the first company to produce fire pumps for fire systems compatible with NFPA 20 in Turkey in 1999. Since 1999, we have been producing vertical shaft line, horizontal end-suction and horizontal detachable body double-suction fire pumps. According to the pump types, we have a wide product range of 100 -5000 gpm, 30-170 mss.
We are the 8th in the world and first in Turkey to obtain a UL-FM certificate in 2009. We obtained UL-FM certificate in end-suction fire groups, and UL list certificate in double-suction fire groups with detachable body. In 2019, we have expanded our UL-FM certified product group by receiving an FM certificate for our double-suction fire pumps with detachable body.
We can provide our customers with solutions thanks to our relevant fire groups according to the nature of the project and the conditions required in the specifications. In addition, we produce cabin type fire groups for fire groups located in open environment. Based on the requests of our customers, we have also added mobile fire systems to our fire systems product range this year. In addition to these, we also provide ready package system solutions inside containers, especially in overseas projects.
&nbsp;Can you give us more information about your new product certified by FM (Factory Mutual) and UL (Underwriters Laboratories)?
&nbsp;Our certified products are single-staged double-suction pumps with horizontally detachable body and radial impellers. With the double-suction radial impeller’s back to back design and closed impeller structure, the axial load is minimised to zero. Pump flanges are designed according to ANSI/ASME B16.1 Class 250.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The inlet-outlet flanges are located on the same axis. Shaft sealing is provided with soft gaskets. Double-suction pumps have the advantage of low NPSH character. Compared to end-suction pumps, they provide ease of service and maintenance on impeller and shaft group without removing the engine.
Pump and electric motors are connected with flexible couplings on standard chassis frames. It is possible to drive them with electric and diesel engines. The impeller of the pump is made from CuSn10 bronze material and the shaft is made from AISI 316 stainless steel.
Can you tell us about the certification process of the double-suction fire pumps with detachable body?
&nbsp;Actually it is a long and a difficult process. UL and FM are two different institutions. In addition to your technical calculations and technical features expected in the product, you are also audited in terms of quality management. As Masdaf, we have successfully went through all these processes in 2009, the certification process of our “fire pumps with detachable body”, which was certified in 2019, was easier and faster. We have successfully completed the process within a short period of 4-5 months.
&nbsp;What is the importance of FM certification in pump technologies?
&nbsp;FM (Factory Mutual) is an independent and technical institution based in USA which provides quality approval to materials and systems. It’s a subsidiary of FMI (Factory Mutual Insurance), which insures private and large risks.
In order to obtain FM approval for fire pumps, you need to meet the NFPA 20 requirements and provide some features beyond NFPA 20. FM approval is the most difficult standard among the quality approvals granted for fire pumps and peripheral components, and is the worldwide accepted standard as the highest grade product quality approval.
&nbsp;What are the advantages of ‘Fire Pumps With Detachable Body’?
&nbsp;Double-suction pumps have the advantage of low NPSH character. Compared to end-suction pumps, they provide ease of service and maintenance on impeller and shaft group without removing the engine. Their efficiency is higher than the end-suction pumps under pressures of 1000 gpm and above. Thus, it provides advantage in the initial investment cost.
&nbsp;What do you think about the fire trainings held in our country?

&nbsp;are responsible.
According to fire regulation, any person involved in a fire disaster will be responsible according to their defects. Furthermore, insurance companies are obliged to control whether the provisions of this regulation are complied with in buildings, facilities and enterprises in the event of a fire insurance request. For this reason, everyone in the sector has important duties on fire trainings. We provide trainings for the people interested with our educational platform MAS ACADEMY in every region of Turkey. We keep the sector informed about the application, operation and maintenance of fire systems regarding pumps. Along with sponsorships, we also provide support to sectoral associations and organisations by attending educational events and sharing our information. We have contributed to “Earthquake and Fire Test and Training Centre”, which was launched by Allianz Teknik in 2019 in Turkish-German University Beykoz campus with an operating fire pump training room, end-suction and detachable double-suction pump section to be used in trainings. We will be providing trainings in this training centre within a program every year.
&nbsp;How was 2019 in terms of both the sector and Masdaf as of the end of the year?
&nbsp;I can say that it was an intensive year with important innovations for us. First of all, we have made a big change in brand identity and redesigned our logo to be more dynamic and modern. In addition, we have developed 3 new products within the scope of R&amp;D studies and commenced mass production this year.
&nbsp;In “Daf Series Pumps”, we have increased the mechanical strength with stainless structure. With this new product, for which a patent has been filed, we aimed to offer our customers a long-term use.
&nbsp;“HEXA Series Stainless Pump” is another product we have developed, which we will offer with quick delivery advantage in all capacities to our customers thanks to our strong semi-finished goods inventory. The product is made from stainless steel, it is highly efficient and has a vertical shaft. Highly functional Hexa Series Stainless Pumps can be used in a range of applications, from mains water to industrial liquids of different temperature, flow and pressure.
&nbsp;The new “Deep Well Submersible Pumps”, which provide ideal solutions for deep wells and is generally used in the pressurisation of clean or demineralised water, agricultural irrigation, raw water supply, lowering the groundwater level and industrial applications, is another product that we have launched in 2019. It does not make noise or cause vibration as it operates fully in fluid.
&nbsp;In our country, there is an economic structure dependent on the growth of the construction sector. The contraction experienced in construction sector since mid-2018 has also slowed down the industrial production operating for that sector. We are experiencing a difficult period due to such contraction and in which the competition is intense and profit margins are low. Many companies have applied for a concordat in these challenging market conditions. Many manufacturers and suppliers making business with these companies have incurred losses. Together with our business partners, we have managed this process carefully without experiencing any financial risks and we will continue to do so. As a 42-year-old company, we witnessed many crises in our country. The difference of this crisis from others is that it will take a longer time to recover due to the impact of the global crisis. Our advantage as a company is that we do not only produce for building technologies. We also produce for industry, Infrastructure, Agricultural Irrigation and Marine sectors.
For the last two years, we have participated many fairs in different countries in order to increase our exports; we have organised “pump seminars and trainings” for the mechanical design and mechanical application offices in the region, and expanded our foreign dealer sales channels together with our business partners abroad. Briefly, we were able to manage this crisis in the domestic market by having an opportunity to increase our exports. We are currently exporting to more than 65 countries. Regarding our strategies to diversify our foreign markets, our exports grew steadily. In the first half of 2019, our exports increased by 21% compared to the same period of the previous year. Since we export 40% of the production, we were able to close 2019 better.
&nbsp;What’s the situation regarding your works abroad? Are there any new markets you have targeted?
&nbsp;Our vision is to become a reputable and preferred brand in the world with our product, service quality and engineering solutions in fluid systems. We also perform and plan our works, product developments and quality management according to this target. We are currently exporting products to more than 65 countries. The number of countries we export increases every year. We are planning to open offices in the regions we have determined abroad. We are focused on the African market as well. In 2019, we have attended 3 fairs in this region. As the only pump company included in the Turquality support program, our export strategies and investments will continue to increase.
&nbsp;What are your future goals as Masdaf?
&nbsp;While achieving our goal of becoming a reputable and preferred brand in the world, our goal is to produce sustainable, environmentally-friendly, high-quality, distinctive pump and fluid systems by combining our dynamic and innovative structure we’ve formed in the light of our knowledge, with the strength we receive from our customers, suppliers and employees.</div>

<div class="content generaltext">We spoke about Masdaf’s 2020 targets, the importance of pump technologies in industrial applications, efficiency and sustainability concepts, Mas Academy and export activities with Masdaf General Manager Vahdettin Yırtmaç.
&nbsp;How would you describe the sector and your company in a period in which we have recently entered to a new year?
&nbsp;According to the data of TÜİK (Turkey Statistical Institute), we understand that the number of building units received new construction permits in Turkey has decreased by over 50% compared to the previous year in terms of numbers and area. This tells us how much the sector has been contracted in domestic markets. We are starting 2020 in a positive atmosphere with developments such as balancing in currency rates and inflation, interest cuts as well as 1.2 million requests for 100.000 social housing projects announced by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation. I believe that 2020 will be easier than 2019 for the sector. These developments are giving hope to Masdaf and our sector.
&nbsp;As Masdaf, we develop our pump technologies in order to become competitive and sustainable in compliance with Industry 4.0, which is the new era of the industry. Digitalisation is inevitable for global competition. We produce the pump technologies we have developed with both high quality and we optimise the costs. Thanks to these studies, we are providing sustainable collaborations in almost 65 countries in which we export. Based on providing a sustainable collaboration with our Customers, our studies in terms of marketing are as important as the innovative products we have developed. As a result of all these studies, we aim to take Masdaf brand “forward” every year.
&nbsp;Can you give us information on your products and solutions used in industrial applications?
&nbsp;We are a pump company with one of the widest range of products in terms of industrial applications. We can name our products used in industrial applications as; end-suction pumps, double-suction pumps, staged pumps,column pumps, waste water submersible pumps, fire pumps, complete stainless vertical shaft pumps.
&nbsp;According to the characteristics of the liquid transferred in industrial applications, we can offer a system-specific solution by changing the pump design and material properties. Additionally, in the event the liquid is combustible and inflammable, we can produce atex certified pumps as well. Our heavy duty ISO 2858 type end-suction centrifugal pumps have important usage areas in domestic and international market. Additionally, we are able to produce our multi-stage pumps divisible from axis in accordance with the needs of the customers. Pumps allow important industrial applications with both engine preference and its driver by being equipped with coupler and sealing systems. Actually, the “tailor-made” production refers to these.
&nbsp;What are the industrial sectors which you primarily address?
&nbsp;We have a product range which addresses the entire industrial sectors. The intensity of the industrial sectors which we address vary according to the status of the investment. However, lately we focus on Energy, Textile, Petrol and Metal Industry in which investment never stops.
I can say that the petroleum sector is one of the sectors which we make important collaborations for a long time. We supply pumps to a lot of petroleum companies both in Turkey and abroad. We provide service to a lot of terminals, refineries, ports and storage facilities with our pumps. Power plants, iron and steel plants, aluminium factories, glass furnaces, chemistry and petrochemical, cement, leather, textile etc. are among the sectors we work with. We supply pumps to pulp and paper plants to a certain intensity limit.
&nbsp;There are increases in extreme weather events due to climate change and this is a factor that increases the importance of infrastructure applications. Can we get information on your infrastructure solutions?
&nbsp;The water problems arising due to drought is increasing. Due to this decrease in groundwater sources, underground water resources should be evaluated to meet both agricultural irrigation and drinking water needs. Becoming aware of the increasing need, we have added “deep well pumps” to the product range in 2019. Our investments on this area will continue increasingly. Unfortunately, we started to encounter flood disasters due to climate change more frequently. We are producing emergency pumps for a long time. We produce “UKMS series and ENDURO PRO” series products with high solid particle permeability and self-absorption capability with trailer diesel and cabin. Our “ENDURO series submersible pumps” used for domestic and industrial waste water and rainwater transfer are also among our products that we are assertive.
&nbsp;What are the factors that must be considered in the selection of fire pumps? Can you give us information on the fire product group and solutions?
&nbsp;Fire pumps that are used to pressurise the watered fire extinguishing systems in buildings and industry facilities and which possess great importance in fire intervention are specially designed since they are devices with high importance level. In terms of pump material characteristics; Body: GG25, Impeller: CuSn10 (Bronze), Shaft: AISI316, Packing gland: Must be soft. Additionally, it should provide the 65% of the rated pressure at 150% rated flow. Covered valve pressure value should not exceed 140% of the rated pressure value.
The most important aspect in fire pumps is that there must be a different control panel for each pump. Unfortunately, due to the initial investment cost, we can see that off-standard products are being used in the field. In the selection of the fire pump, the aspects specified in our fire regulation must be taken into consideration. Regarding the elimination of deficiencies, the international standards such as NFPA and UL-FM can be taken as reference. When making a brand preference, it must be checked whether these fire pumps are certified by these certification bodies.
&nbsp;One of the most important subjects in pump systems is efficiency; what do efficiency and sustainability mean to Masdaf?
&nbsp;20% of the total electric power in the world and approximately 30% of the industrial electric power is consumed by pumps. With a “correctly designed pump”, it is possible for enterprises to save a significant amount of energy in a short period and the system is able pay for itself in a short time. In this context, in order to raise the awareness on renovation, “real consumption measurements” are made in industrial facilities. In the event the system is renewed, we are issuing a report on the energy saving the establishment will make and the depreciation periods. Thus, by raising the enterprises’ awareness, we ensure that they switch to more efficient products. With the projects we have implemented as Masdaf, we do our part for the efficient use of energy, which has an important share inTurkey's imports, and we will continue to do so. Because, in order to leave a better world for our children, we must produce environmentally-friendly and efficient products.
&nbsp;You are providing an important contribution for raising the awareness of the sector with MAS Academy. Can we get information on your activities on this area?
&nbsp;As Masdaf, raising the awareness of our own employees and industry stakeholders are among the most important subjects. Mas Academy has been established for this purpose.&nbsp; Within the scope of MAS Academy, we are providing 30 different trainings on “pump production, pump selection, pump maintenance and installation”. The trainings provided by the expert engineers of Masdaf are prepared with the contribution of Mas Academy Honorary President, Mr. Prof. Dr. Mete ŞEN, who is our consultant.
&nbsp;Granting certificates for more than 1000 persons since its establishment in 2017, we plan that Mas Academy will provide training to approximately 400 people in 9 provinces in 2020. Additionally, we will continue to organise trainings at the headquarters of institutions and companies, based on demand.
&nbsp;In addition to our trainings on pump production, maintenance and installation, in the trainings we organise regarding our business partners, we describe the correct selection of the systems they prefer in buildings and industrial facilities and the importance of choosing the right system in terms of energy efficiency.
&nbsp;Masdaf Products are being used in many countries throughout the world. Can we get information on your export activities?
&nbsp;Taking important steps in terms of globalisation, we can say that internal market and foreign market separation has been eliminated for Masdaf. We are completing important projects by establishing the sales and service network we established in the domestic market in the countries where we currently export with our world-class production approach. We aim to become a global pump brand which is recognised worldwide. In this context, we have accelerated our branding activities in addition to our activities on digitalisation. Within the direction of the changing world dynamics, we have renewed our logo to become more dynamic at the final quarter of 2020.
I can say that Masdaf is starting to benefit from the steps taken in terms of globalisation. Regarding our strategies to diversify our foreign markets, our exports grew steadily. Currently, we are exporting to 65 countries. Our exports have increased by 34% in 2019 compared to the previous year. The share of exports to turnover has reached 40% level. We are planning to increase this level to&nbsp;50% within three years. Our activities regarding export are supported by the government. As a 100% domestic pump brand, we became the first company to receive a Turquality certificate. We include new ones among the countries we export to every year and we make strong distributorship agreements in these countries. Within the scope of our activities for the improvement of exports, we will be participating in specialist exhibitions to be held in target markets in 2020.</div>

Innovative brand of the pump sector Masdaf has informed the municipalities and the people regarding the precautions that can be taken against floods due to intense rain that affects various regions of Turkey every year.
Masdaf Sales Manager Cem Hanedanoğlu highlighted that the flood events which are highly seen in Turkey among other natural disasters and may cause people to lose their lives and said that: “Based on recent researches, 1242 people lost their lives due to floods in Turkey in the last 39 years, it is safe to point out that this figure is half the death toll seen in Europe due to similar circumstances. Many losses occur on roads or in buildings in lower elevation and river banks. Due to flooding on the roads, the people are drifted in water in their cars or in their homes and lose their lives. The regions where floods are most frequently seen are Black Sea, Mediterranean and Marmara Region. The municipalities in these regions must invest more in works to remedy the issues in city infrastructure and sewage systems; the storm weather pipelines and the sewage pipelines should not run within the same pipeline, these must be separated, and the rain water could be used in a more efficient manner within the city itself.
&nbsp;Of course all these require time and money, on one hand the renovation must be the ultimate goal, on the other hand the required precautions must be taken to minimise the flooding risk borne of current infrastructure and in turn minimise loss of life.” Informing about the precautions that can be taken against a flood incident, Hanedanoğlu said regarding the topic: “Municipalities, industrial facilities, and people living in buildings that face the risks of flooding should obtain emergency action pumps and keeping them ready to operate with their containers, trailers and diesel engines, and accessories in storage facilities as this is vital to prevent catastrophic flood events. These pumps can be self-primed or vacuum systems. The most prominent issue seen in flood events are the clogged storm water discharge grates or getting clogged due to the debris carried by the flood. Since the discharge grates are clogged and the water cannot be discharged, the water then causes flooding. It is extremely important that the municipalities must check the drainage system against clogging prior to heavy rain warnings and the emergency pumps must be maintained and checked for operation. Especially following the flood events at the underpasses, emergency pumps for discharging water are saving lives. “Portable waste water pump systems” used by institutions such as ASKİ (Ankara Water and Sewage Administration) and İSKİ (İstanbul Water and Sewage Administration) to discharge the water due to flooding, are mounted on a trailer and are used in discharging the water in floods, river flooding, clogged or malfunctioned infrastructure systems. The pumps can be easily moved and therefore speeds up the intervention.”</div>
